FCC Chair Announces Investigation into NPR and PBS

He says the nonprofits may be violating federal rules by airing commercials and promotional announcements.

Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr announced an investigation into the “sponsor messages” broadcast by National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).

“I am concerned that NPR and PBS broadcasts could be violating federal law by airing commercials,” Chair Carr wrote last week to the presidents and chief executives of NPR and PBS. “In particular, it is possible that NPR and PBS member stations are broadcasting underwriting announcements that cross the line into prohibited commercial advertisements.”

The FCC chair said that he is sharing information with members of Congress as they consider the continuation of taxpayer funding for NPR and PBS programming.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Carr to be led by the Lord as he oversees the investigation into the public nonprofits airing commercials.
  • For wisdom for members of the House and Senate as they deliberate government funding legislation.
